Nashoba Associated Boards of Health is a governmental agency, formed under Massachusetts General Laws (c. 111, s27A), by its member Boards of Health to serve as their Health Agents.
In 1930 small rural communities in Middlesex and Worcester Counties indicated interest in form a health district to provide public health services to their communities. The Nashoba Health Unit was established in 1931 under a grant from the Commonwealth Fund of New York, and the guidance of the Harvard University School of Public Health. The member community Boards of Health retained their authority to discharge their public health obligations under the law, and with the creation of the Unit, had public health professional to help them.
The Agency’s membership has varied over the 75+ years of its existence and now provides public health services to its fifteen member communities in North Central Massachusetts.
