Nashoba Associated Boards of Health- Public Health Services

The Nashoba Associated Boards of Health (NABH) was established in 1931 by its members to provide public health services to their communities.  The Association currently serves sixteen member towns in Northern Worcester and Middlesex Counties, and the community of Devens. The local elected Boards of Health in each town are, by Massachusetts General Law, responsible for promoting healthy communities by education, outreach, inspections, assessments and the enforcement of public health laws and regulations. NABH serves as the Health Agent for its member Boards of Health, working for them to address the public health and public health nursing needs in their communities on a daily basis.

The scope of our services includes the following:

Environmental services: An assigned health agent, and other inspectional staff, assist residents with a variety of matters (water quality testing, environmental complaints, requests for housing inspections and questions related to sewage disposal systems), issue permits (private drinking water wells, sewage disposal system, contractors who install and pump sewage disposal systems, food service establishments, and bathing beaches) and provide bacterial testing for the Town Beach during it operation. We operate a regional sharps collection program, and schedule regional rabies clinics among other things.

Public health nursing/town nursing services: Our public health nurses provide immunization clinics, health screenings, disease investigation and follow-up, home visits for assessment and coordination of care, and educational programs and presentations.
